BUSolutions – Industry / Government Collaboration
City transit buses are becoming increasingly expensive to own, operate and maintain. They also are a major contributor to street wear, as well as urban noise and pollution. The BUSolutions project – a collaborative effort between government and industry – was initiated to demonstrate the feasibility of producing an easily maintainable, efficient city transit bus that would address the needs of various stakeholders.
Altair Technology Will Make City Transit Buses Cheaper To Own and Operate
The Altair BUSolutions project makes extensive use of virtual prototyping and optimization technologies to drive the entire product design process. Using a “clean sheet of paper” design approach that takes into consideration the needs of transit authorities, bus drivers, riders and the communities within the transit system, the project will deliver a low-floor, heavy-duty bus design that is substantially lighter than those currently available. Along with numerous other design innovations, this translates into reduced fuel consumption, reduced wear on city streets, longer tire and component life, and reduced noise and pollution.
